SA – A lion has killed two cubs after killing a female cub in the state’s savanna region.
Police said the cubs were found dead on Monday at a park in Dambulla.
The park director said the lion had attacked a female lion at a distance of 20 metres.
He said the two cub were in the enclosure when they were attacked by the lion and that the lion was “extremely aggressive”.
“The cubs did not survive the attack,” he said.
“It’s been a very hard time for us.
We are deeply sorry.”
The director said it was believed the lion killed the female lion in the park because she had attacked the lion in an area where it was forbidden to kill animals.
“We cannot allow any lion to be able to roam around the park,” he told AFP news agency.
“The lion will never again be able live in the same area as other lions.”
Authorities have also said they will investigate whether the lions are related to a similar attack on a cub in 2013, in which a male lion killed a female.
